Author Guidelines

Geospatial and Earth System Science (GESS) welcomes original research articles, review articles, short communications, editorials, and book reviews in the fields of Geospatial Technology, Geography, Geology, Earth System Science, GIS, Remote Sensing, Cartography, Geomatics, Environmental Science, Hydrology, Climatology, Disaster Management, Natural Resources, Urban and Regional Planning, and related disciplines.

Before Submission

Authors should ensure that:

  • The manuscript is original, has not been published previously, and is not under consideration elsewhere.
  • The manuscript is prepared in Microsoft Word using the GESS manuscript template.
  • All authors' names, affiliations, ORCID iDs (where available), and the corresponding author's email address are provided.
  • The manuscript includes an Abstract, 4–6 Keywords, appropriate figures and tables, and references formatted in Harvard Style.
  • All references cited in the text are included in the reference list.   

    Peer Review

    All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening for scope, quality, originality, plagiarism, and scientific merit. Suitable manuscripts are subjected to double-blind peer review by independent experts. Authors are expected to revise their manuscripts in response to reviewers' comments before final acceptance.    

    Ethical Standards

    Authors must follow accepted publication ethics and ensure originality of their work. Plagiarism, duplicate submission, data fabrication, falsification, and unethical research practices are not acceptable. Authors may be requested to submit declarations and supporting documents during the review process.    

    Article Processing Charge (APC)

    The APC is payable only after the manuscript has successfully completed the peer-review process and has been formally accepted for publication. There are no manuscript submission or review charges. Detailed payment instructions will be communicated to the corresponding author after acceptance.  

    APC Waiver for 2026

    No APC will be charged for manuscripts submitted to GESS on or before 31 December 2026. During this period, the applicable publication and processing costs will be covered by ManEd Research Foundation.

    Detailed Guidelines

    Authors are encouraged to read the complete Author Guidelines available on the journal website before submitting their manuscripts. The detailed guidelines include manuscript preparation, reference style, figures, tables, submission checklist, and publication policies. 

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The manuscript is original and has not been published or submitted elsewhere.
  • The manuscript is prepared according to the GESS Author Guidelines.
  • The manuscript is submitted in Microsoft Word format.
  • Title, Abstract, Keywords, figures, tables and references are complete.
  • ORCID iDs (where available) are provided for all authors.
  • All references cited in the text are included in the reference list.
  • Permission has been obtained for any copyrighted material.
  • The authors agree to the journal's publication ethics and plagiarism policy.
  • Authors understand that an Article Processing Charge (APC) is payable only after acceptance.

Research Articles

Original research papers reporting novel scientific findings, methodologies, analyses, and applications in Geospatial Technology, Geography, Geology, Earth System Science, Environmental Science, GIS, Remote Sensing, Spatial Analysis, Cartography, Hydrology, Climatology, Geomorphology, and related interdisciplinary fields. All submissions undergo double-blind peer review before publication.

Review Articles

Review Articles provide comprehensive and critical analyses of current knowledge, emerging trends, recent advances, and future research directions in Geospatial Technology, Geography, Geology, Earth System Science, Environmental Science, GIS, Remote Sensing, Spatial Analysis, and related interdisciplinary fields. All submissions undergo double-blind peer review before publication.

Short Communications

Short Communications present concise reports of significant scientific findings, preliminary results, innovative methods, or noteworthy observations that contribute to the advancement of Geospatial Technology, Geography, Geology, Earth System Science, and related disciplines. All submissions undergo double-blind peer review.

Book Reviews

Book Reviews provide critical evaluations of recently published books related to Geospatial Technology, Geography, Geology, Earth System Science, Environmental Science, and allied disciplines.

The Geospatial and Earth System Science (GESS) journal is committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of its authors, reviewers, editors, and readers. Personal information, including names, institutional affiliations, email addresses, and other contact details collected through this journal, will be used solely for the editorial, peer-review, publication, indexing, archiving, and communication processes related to the journal.

Personal information will not be shared, or disclosed to any third party except where required by law or when necessary for publication services such as DOI registration, indexing, digital archiving, plagiarism screening, and abstracting services. All submitted manuscripts and reviewer reports are treated as confidential documents.
